Wireless Type 1 Interconnection Service (Type 1) is a finished service for Paging, Personal Communication Service (PCS), Cellular and Mobile services. It provides a switched connection to the Qwest Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). Type 1 is an Interconnection between your Point of Interface (POI) and the Qwest Switch, which is usually the POI's Serving Wire Center (SWC). As the physical demarcation between your network and the Qwest PSTN defines where one party's network responsibility ends and the other party's begins.
Because Type 1 is a finished service, Qwest provisions all connections necessary for complete connectivity between your POI and a Qwest terminating end office. Type 1 provides the routing of the traffic between your end-user and Qwest's end-user.
Type 1 is a trunk side connection with line treatment, except for a two-wire analog channel, which is available as a line side connection. All types of traffic and both directions of traffic (Land to Mobile and Mobile to Land) are routed over the Type 1 Interconnection.
Type 1 requires the assignment of blocks of numbers from a Qwest NPA NXX to the Wireless Service Provider (WSP). These numbers are generally assigned from the Qwest SWC.
The following subject areas provide an overview of Type 1:
Method of Interconnection
Qwest offers Entrance Facility as your method of interconnection. Entrance Facility is a facility provided by Qwest from your POI to the Qwest SWC.
Trunking
Analog and digital trunks are available for Type 1 service. You must request digital interconnection facilities for carriage of digital trunks.
Analog 2-Wire
Analog 4-Wire
Digital 4-Wire
Facility Levels
Trunk group connections will be made at a DS0, DS1 or DS3.
Signaling Requirements
Type 1 can be provisioned using Multi-Frequency (MF), Dial Pulse Multi-Frequency (DTMF) or Dial Pulse (DP).
Trunk Groups
Type 1 traffic - local, Directory Assistance (DA), 911/E911 and Operator Services (OS) may be carried on a single 2-way trunk group or a 1-way out going and 1-way incoming trunk groups. You may request a separate 2-way trunk group for each type of traffic. DA, 911/E911, and OS traffic are not carried on Type 1 trunks for paging.
Wireless Type 1 Service is available where facilities exist throughout Qwest's 14-state local service territory.
Type 1 terms and conditions are set forth in the State Exchange and Network Service Tariffs located in Tariffs/Catalogs/Price Lists or through your individual Interconnection Agreement.
You may purchase Type 1 out of the state tariff in the Qwest 14-state local service territory, except for the three states of North Dakota, South Dakota and Washington .
You may negotiate an Interconnection agreement with Qwest for any state. Members of Qwest's negotiation team negotiate these agreements See Qwest Wholesale Interconnection Agreement Negotiation Process for more information.
You may "pick and choose" an entire agreement or sections from multiple existing agreements to create their own agreement when negotiating a new agreement or upon the expiration of the existing agreement. In addition, if requirements are met, you may "pick and choose" from any subsequent agreement in effect to amend or replace your existing agreement.
The term of the agreement is either the same as that of the agreement picked in its entirety or the shortest term amongst the multiple agreements.
Technical characteristics can be found in the following Telcordia Special Reports (SRs), SR-2275, Notes on the Network.

SHARP/SHARP Plus (Self-Healing Alternate Route Protection/Self-Healing Interoffice Protection) - Is provisioned solely on fiber optics and provides a separate facility path for the protection between the Qwest SWC and your premises. It protects you against failure of primary fiber route and the electronics in the local loop. The SHARP Plus* feature extends the same alternate route protection into the interoffice portion of the circuit.
Facility Protection - Provides you with continual communication. The two types of Facility Protection are Diversity and Avoidance, that can be requested separately or in combination. Diversity is a one-to-one alternate working circuit that is diversely routed from the primary circuit. Avoidance is a circuit that is physically routed to avoid a designated geographic location or wire center.
* NOTE: SHARP Plus is no longer available for new service requests. The grandparenting action will affect you in the following ways:
For additional information about the grandparenting of SHARP Plus contact your Qwest Service Manager.

Prior to issuing a trouble report to Qwest, you must isolate your end-user's trouble to the Qwest provisioned product or service.
The electronic method is Customer Electronic Maintenance and Repair System (CEMR) it is a graphical user interface to Qwest Operation Support Systems for trouble administration activities such as creating and editing trouble reports, monitoring status and reviewing trouble history on Circuit IDs. To learn more about CEMR, see Customer Electronic Maintenance and Repair (CEMR).
