QWEST FOUNDATION AND NORTH DAKOTA EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY COUNCIL ANNOUNCE TEACHERS AND TECHNOLOGY GRANT WINNERS
North Dakota Teachers To Share $25,000 for Classroom Technology Programs
BISMARCK, N.D., Dec. 20, 2007 – Today, 12 teachers at 10 schools across North Dakota learned they had “made the grade” and will share $25,000 in grants to bring to life technology-related classroom projects. The Qwest Foundation and the North Dakota Educational Technology Council announced the grant winners today.
This is the second year of the Qwest Teachers and Technology grant program. Its purpose is to provide funding for technology-related educational programs or projects, and to recognize North Dakota K through 12th grade public school teachers who use technology in the classroom in new and innovative ways to improve student performance.
“The winners of this year’s Qwest Teachers and Technology grants are inspiring with their creative ideas and imaginative programs,” said Scott Macintosh, Qwest president for North Dakota. “Qwest is pleased to help our state’s educators ensure students experience technology in new and inventive ways—now and in the future."
The grant winners represent schools and districts across North Dakota. Their program ideas encompassed technologies like student response systems, global positioning technology, interactive whiteboards, handheld computers and multimedia classrooms.
Grant Award Recipients:
“Technology is so ingrained in our lives that it’s important we put the best teaching and learning technologies in the hands of teachers and students,” said Dan Pullen, North Dakota Educational Technology Council director. “The Qwest Foundation continues to champion education and technology in our state, and as a result, ten more teachers will be able to advance their students’ classroom achievements.”
The Teachers and Technology grant program aims to improve student achievement through the use of today’s technology; build a real-world team problem-solving environment; and set the groundwork for future technology integration projects.
The grants were awarded to teachers through a competitive grant process announced by Governor John Hoeven and the Qwest Foundation on Nov. 19; applications were due Dec. 3.
