Are you pressured to decrease network costs while improving network
performance?
Meet the demand for interconnecting geographically dispersed LANs at native
speeds?
Network costs must be managed, and you must live within a limited capital
budget.

The opportunity to have a flexible, scalable network without risky new technology investments can be found in Qwest's in-region LAN Switching Service (LSS).
Qwest LSS is a metropolitan area or LATA-wide optical Ethernet solution that uses Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) technology to provide you with native Ethernet speed LAN interconnectivity.
LSS provides a specific amount of bandwidth and supports both point-to-point and multi-point full duplex connectivity of Ethernet connections at 10 Mbps, 45 Mbps and 100 Mbps. LSS provides token ring LAN interconnection at 16 Mbps and transparently transports VLAN traffic.
LSS adds significant value by offloading the financial, operational and administrative burdens of metropolitan-area networking onto a virtual network fully managed by Qwest. This solution includes Qwest-provided bridging equipment located at user locations. Comprehensive connectivity is accomplished with virtual circuits between user sites over Qwest fiber-optic facilities and across the Qwest ATM network. The traffic parameters in the ATM network associated with the LSS virtual circuits are based on the service rate subscribed to and the implementation of Unspecified Bit Rate (UBR) ATM service class.
LSS allows for seamless integration of the LAN across multiple locations without investment in new equipment or training. LSS can be more cost effective than other data transport solutions. LSS can support all key, bandwidth-intensive applications running on your LAN, including:
- Concurrent engineering or collaborative computing
- Image processing
- Interactive file sharing
- E-mail
- Internet/intranet/extranet access
- Distance learning
