A. Qwest Network Management Services (NMS) complements the work of your in-house network management professionals. This service makes your current staff more effective and efficient, allowing them to focus on strategic items. NMS is your collaborator, using state-of-the-art customized network management tools and our years of experience to provide your network management staff with not only hands-on day-to-day network management, but vital information and recommendations for use in planning. This allows your staff to spend more time aligning your data network with the unique goals of your business and interacting with your internal customers, as well as implementing network additions and enhancements.

Q. Is Qwest Network Management Services network management a remote management service?

A. The Qwest Network Management Services Network Operations Center (NOC) is located in Minneapolis. From that location, our expert engineering team keeps everything running smoothly. Once we have established an line connection from the NOC to your data network, your network receives constant attention and care by some of the best network experts and diagnostic tools in the country. Remote management occurs real-time and can save you money on network management capital and expenses.

A. Qwest Network Management Services features include:

Q. What type of business will most benefit from Qwest Network Management Services?

A. Qwest Network Management Services (NMS) is perfect for your company if you run mission-critical data on your network. You will use routers, hubs and/or switches with sufficient bandwidth in devices and transport to accommodate NMS information. The devices must be part of an IP-routed network that uses standard publicly- or privately-routable IP addresses for all covered devices.

Q. What devices and transport technologies does Qwest support?

A. Qwest Network Management Services supports Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) manageable routers, hubs and switches on Frame Relay Service networks.

Q. Do I have to buy a connection for the Qwest Network Management Services network data to travel on?

A. Yes, Qwest Network Management Services uses a customer-purchased connection such as a Frame Relay Service permanent virtual connection to our network management platform to provide the service.

Q. Is any redundancy available on Qwest Network Management Services?

A. Yes, if you have Qwest Network Management Services (NMS) located in two LATAs where NMS platforms are located, you are able to connect to a second platform for redundancy.

Q. Are the Qwest Network Management Services reports in real-time?

A. You have access to reports via a secured Web site; these reports are based on information from the previous day. However, you also have access to ad hoc reports that include information that is two hours old or less.

Q. How much history does Qwest keep online for the reports?

A. Daily reports are kept online for 60 days. The data for these reports and the data to prepare ad hoc reports are kept as-polled (every 15 minutes) for one week. The data and reports are then retained as one-hour samples for six weeks, then as daily samples for 52 weeks.

Q. May we monitor all ports or may we specify which ports we would like you to monitor?

A.You may select which ports you would like Qwest to monitor.

Qwest Network Management Services is available throughout the United States and internationally. Minimum one year term of commitment required.
