
CAP Download Instructions for PC
Upgrading your Cisco 678 External Modem to the latest software release involves
the following four processes:

Downloading the Cisco 678 External Modem CAP CBOS v2.4.6 to your hard drive

Download the Commander software v1.4.2 to your hard drive

Upgrading your existing Cisco 678 External Modem operating system to the CAP CBOS v2.4.6

Installing the Commander software v1.4.2
Process 1 - Downloading the Cisco 678 External Modem CAP CBOS v2.4.6 to your hard drive
STEP 1
Click
here to download CBOS v2.4.6 for your Cisco 678. Select
SAVE THIS PROGRAM TO DISK. Then, select OK. Please save this
file in the C:/temp directory.
STEP 2
Double click on the 678CAPcbosv2.4.6.exe file you saved in the previous step.
STEP 3
Change the UNZIP TO FOLDER to C:/temp. Then, click UNZIP.

STEP 4
On the window displayed in Step 3, click CLOSE.
Process 2 - Downloading Commander software v1.4.2 to your
hard drive
Commander v1.4.2 software is required for Cisco® CBOS 2.4.6.
STEP 1
Click here to download Commander 1.4.2 for your Cisco
678. Select SAVE THIS PROGRAM TO DISK. Then, select OK. Please save this file
in the C:/temp directory.
STEP 2
Double click on the comv1.4.2.exe file you saved in the previous step.
STEP 3
Change the UNZIP TO FOLDER to C:/temp. Then, click UNZIP.

STEP 4
On the window displayed in Step 3, click CLOSE.
Process 3 - Upgrading your existing Cisco® 678 External Modem operating
system to CAP CBOS v2.4.6
STEP 1
At the "cbos#" prompt in HyperTerminal®, type the following command:
set download code
STEP 2
As the C's are being displayed on the screen, select the following from the
HyperTerminal option bar across the top of the program:
Transfer>Send File

STEP 3
Click the BROWSE button.

STEP 4
Highlight the nsrouter.c678cap.2.4.6.bin file you previously saved in the C:/temp
directory. Then, select OPEN.

STEP 5
Select Xmodem in the protocol field. Then, select SEND.

WARNING!!!! It is extremely important that the download is not interrupted
while CBOS version 2.4.6 is being transferred to your Cisco®
678. If interrupted you could render your Cisco 678 useless.
This process will take about 6 minutes. Please do not continue until the download screen does close and you are prompted in HyperTerminal to press Enter.
STEP 6
Exit out of HyperTerminal. Select YES, I WANT TO DISCONNECT.
Process 4 - Installing the Commander software v1.4.2
STEP 1
Double click on the SETUP file to launch the Commander installation
wizard. This file is located in the C:/temp file folder you saved earlier in
the Commander download instructions. The setup file with a PC as an icon, is
the correct setup.exe file for this operation.

NOTE: If you receive a "Warning" window
after selecting the "setup.exe" file, you need to update your Microsoft
operating system. If you did not receive the "Warning" message, please
go to Step 2. The instructions to install the Microsoft Updates follow this bullet
point. Please take note of the file listed in the "Warning" window
that you will need to install to update your system.

To install the Microsoft Updates, create a folder on your hard drive. (The root directory is recommended
for convenience).

Select the hyperlink named
"Microsoft Updates" and save it to your new folder located on your hard drive. This file is Winzip compressed. Use Winzip or Aladdin™ Expander™ to decompress the file. If you need Aladdin Expander you can download it free
here or if you need Winzip you can download a trial copy
here.

Double click on the file that you noted when you received the "Warning" window.

Your Microsoft® Updates processes in now complete. Locate the "setup.exe" file located in the C:/temp folder.
STEP 2
Select NEXT to continue with the Cisco/Commander installation process.
STEP 3
Select NEXT.

STEP 4
Select START 67x COMMANDER and PLACE 67x COMMANDER in the STARTUP FOLDER. Then,
select FINISH.

STEP 5
Select CBOS 2.4.6 CAP678 under DEVICE VERSION. Then, select OK.

STEP 6
If you have provisioned an executive password, please enter it in the
password field. If no executive password has been provisioned, please leave
the password field blank. Then, press OK.

STEP 7
Double click the Commander icon in the system tray. In the example below, the icon is highlighted in green. It may also be highlighted in blue if your modem has trained.
NOTE: The system tray is the box at the bottom right corner of your screen containing the time of day.

STEP 8
For users who are trained, congratulations! You are now
finished with the installation process and ready to use your DSL service.
If you are not currently trained, click on OPEN CONNECTION.
