Once you have secured your modem's
information and computer files by setting the appropriate
modem passwords and operating system options in the previous
sections, you should consider physical system security measures.
Physical security measures are fail-safe methods to protect your computer files and personal
information when you are not actively connected to the Internet. However, be aware that physical
security solutions will disable the "always on" benefit of Qwest DSLTM.
For the Cisco 67x (External) Modem
If your Cisco 67x modem came with Commander
Software, disconnect from your ISP after each session using
the Commander DISCONNECT button.
NOTE: If you are running Commander v1.4.004, you must click on the LINK tab
in Cisco Commander, then click on the UNTRAIN button. This will untrain you
from the DSLAM.
- Your computer and its contents are
completely secure until you re-establish a connection.
- To re-establish a connection,
click on the Commander
CONNECT button.
If your Cisco 67x modem was shipped
without Commander software, disconnect from your ISP after
each Internet session by powering down your modem. (NOTE:
If you did not receive the Commander software, your modem's
revision is incompatible with it and will not benefit from
it).
- Power down your modem by simply
unplugging the modem from its power source.
- To re-establish connection,
plug the modem back into its power source and it will automatically
re-establish a connection.
Qwest recommends you power down your
computer when it is not in use.
For the Intel 2x00 or Cisco 605 or Intel 3200 Modems

- To re-establish a connection,
click on the CONNECTION MANAGER
CONNECT button.
