Service Verification for Macintosh® 8.01 (or higher)

Please print these instructions before beginning so you can easily refer to them while going through the Cisco® 678 External Modem verification processes. If you do not have a printer, you may save these instructions and open them on your desktop so that you can follow along as you complete the installation processes. To download CBOS version 2.4.6 for your Cisco 678, you must first verify which DSL service you are serviced off (CAP or DMT). If you download the wrong CBOS version, your service will not work. Please follow through the proceeding steps before continuing with the download process to verify your modem setup.

Connecting to your Cisco 678

Use the following instructions to upgrade your Cisco 678 modem to the latest CBOS version.

STEP 1

In this step you will be performing the physical connections for your modem to enable you to configure your modem, by connecting the modem wires.

Connect your Cisco 678 to your Macintosh®. Ensure the yellow cable is connected to the Ethernet port on your Macintosh and to the "ENET" port on the back of the Cisco 678.

Connect the tan MAC management cable you received with your modem in the MAC kit to a ADB to USB converter connected to the back of your MAC. Also, connect the opposite end of the cable to the "MGMT" port on the back of your modem. The USB to ADB cable is not supplied by Qwest. Please see your local computer provider for this cable. If you have an older MAC, you will not need the USB to ADB converter. Please refer to the following diagrams.

NOTE: If you have an older non-USB MAC, please insert the cable directly into the back of your MAC. You do not need an ADB to USB converter.

Connect the modem power cable and ensure the green power light is on.

STEP 3

Double click on the ZTerm 1.0.1 icon on the desktop.

NOTE: If the computer does not recognize the port the management cable is connected to, the following screen will appear. Please select the correct port from the SERIAL PORT drop down menu.

STEP 4

From the Finder Menu, click on SETTINGS then CONNECTION.

STEP 5

Please set the following Connection parameters.

  • Service Name: Cisco
  • Bits per second: 38400

Then, click OK.
