Before downloading the software for CBOS version 2.4.6 for your Cisco 678, you must first determine if you have CAP or DMT. CAP and DMT are different settings your modem uses. To determine which setting you have, follow the steps below. If you download the wrong CBOS version, your service will not work.

Connecting to your Cisco 678

STEP 1

In this step, you will be performing the physical connections for your modem to enable you to configure your modem, by connecting the modem wires.

Connect your Cisco 678 to your PC. Ensure that the yellow cable is connected to the Ethernet port on your PC and to the "ENET" port on the back of the Cisco 678.

Connect the blue or gray management cable (this cable was shipped with the original packing material) to a "COM" port on your PC to the "MGMT" port on the back of the Cisco 678.

NOTE: A "COM" port is a communications port used to connect external devices, such as your modem to the PC, most COM ports are identified by a number on the back of your PC. The following picture is an example of COM port on a PC.

NOTE 1: Identify the PC COM Port number the blue or gray management cable is installed on. You will need this information for the next step.

Connect the modem power cable and ensure the green power light is on.

To access HyperTerminal in Windows® 95/98/ME, perform the following.

Windows 2000 users select START, PROGRAMS, then select ACCESSORIES, then select COMMUNICATIONS, and then select HYPERTERMINAL.

NOTE for Windows® 98 users: Loading Windows® 98 does not automatically load HyperTerminal. If you cannot find a HyperTerminal folder, load HyperTerminal from your Windows® 98 compact disk.

STEP 3

Enter "Cisco 678" as a connection name and select an icon. Then, select OK.

STEP 4

In the CONNECT USING field, select the COM port you connected the blue cable to and noted in Step 1. Then, select OK.

STEP 5

In the Properties window, please set the port settings as follows.

  • Bits per second: 38400
  • Data bits: 8
  • Parity: None
  • Stop bits: 1
  • Flow control: None
Then, select OK.

NOTE: If you cannot connect to your modem, reconfigure the "Bits per second" field to 9600. Then, try to reconnect. If you have further connection problems, please turn the power to your modem off for 30 seconds, then turn it back on.
