New Alert!
On May 23, 2002 a new advisory was published by Cisco
Systems informing all Cisco 600 series router users
of a new Cisco Broadband Operating System (CBOS) firmware
vulnerability. Qwest DSL subscribers with Cisco 675
and Cisco 678 routers will be affected by the new advisory
along with all service providers using the Cisco 600
series class of routers. The new Cisco Systems advisory
outlines specific, identified vulnerabilities in the
security of CBOS version prior to and including CBOS
2.4.4. Current known vulnerabilities are addressed and
fixed in CBOS version 2.4.6. Qwest strongly recommends
all Cisco 675 and Cisco 678 users upgrade to CBOS 2.4.6
to avoid the vulnerabilities associated with older CBOS
version. Upgrading to CBOS 2.4.6 can help you avoid
unexpected problems that can harm the integrity of your
system.
If you have a router (identified with the word "Cisco"
on the top), you can obtain the upgrade free of charge
with step-by-step instructions below. Installation assistance
is also available by calling our technical support team
at 1-800-247-7285.
The new CBOS version 2.4.6 also helps protect against
the "Code Red" virus.
