Instructions for PC - Windows98 SE, Windows2000, WindowsME, or WindowsXP

Please print these instructions before beginning so you can easily refer to them while going through the Actiontec 1520 External Modem upgrade processes. If you do not have a printer, you may save these instructions and open them on your desktop so that you can follow along as you complete the installation processes. Actiontec® 1520 Recovery Software
Please download the following firmware recovery program when upgrading to the latest firmware. The recovery program is used to recover your firmware in the event the upgrade process fails. Please create an Actiontec folder on your PCs hard drive and save the following file in the folder for future use.
NOTE: When performing a recovery all configuration information is lost. Please record all configuration information before beginning the recovery process. The upgrade routine below does not delete configuration information as the recovery procedure does.

Actiontec 1520 Upgrade
Upgrading your Actiontec 1520 External Modem to the latest software release involves the following two processes: :
- Downloading the Actiontec 1520 external modem upgrade file
"Actiontec-1520-1.60.10.0.71-upgrade.exe" to your hard drive
- Upgrading the Actiontec 1520 to software release 1.60.10.0.71
WARNING!!!! Once the download process is started it is crucial the download process is not interrupted at any time. In fact, you could render your Actiontec 1520 useless if the download process is interrupted. Qwest assumes no liability if the download process is not successful.
Process 1 - Downloading the Actiontec 1520 software file to your hard drive.
STEP 1
Click
here to download the "Actiontec-1520-1.60.10.0.71-upgrade.exe" Qwest approved software release for the Actiontec 1520. Select SAVE THIS PROGRAM TO DISK, and then select OK. Please save this file in the c:/temp directory.
STEP 2
Double click on the "Actiontec-1520-1.60.10.0.71-upgrade.exe" file you saved in the previous step in the c:/temp directory.

STEP 3
Click on Unzip.
STEP 4
Click on OK.

STEP 5
Click on CLOSE.

Process 2 - Upgrading the Actiontec 1520 to software release 1.60.10.0.71
Ensure your modem is connected to the PC you will be using to upgrade the Actiontec 1520 via a wired Ethernet connection. The Power light and one of the four Ethernet lights should be illuminated. The Actiontec 1520 must be upgraded via a wired Ethernet connection. A wireless connection cannot be used to upgrade the Actiontec 1520 Gateway.

Before continuing with the upgrade process please close all applications you may have running on your PC. Please leave the Windows Explorer window open.
If you have a FTP or TFTP server running on the PC being used to upgrade the Actiontec 1520 they must also be closed before continuing with the upgrade process.
STEP 1
Double click on the upgrade file you saved in the c:/temp directory.

STEP 2
Please read the screen below. If you have completed the specified tasks please select OK.

STEP 3
Select START.
NOTE: If you have changed the LAN IP address of your Actiontec 1520 you may need to change the IP address in the IP address field below. Please insert the new LAN IP address you assigned to your Actiontec 1520.
STEP 4
Select YES.
NOTE: If you are upgrading from firmware version 1.60.10.0.30 or later, the following screen will not appear. Please continue with STEP 5 to complete the upgrade process.
STEP 5
Please read the following screen. Then, select OK.
WARNING!!!! It is crucial to the download process that it not be interrupted at any time. In fact, you could render your Actiontec 1520 useless if the download process is interrupted. Qwest assumes no liability if the download process is not successful.
You will see several tasks performed during the upgrade process including the following example.
STEP 5
Once the upgrade process has finished please select EXIT.
STEP 6
Once the upgrade program has closed, unplug the power cable from the back of the Actiontec 1520 to perform a power cycle on the modem. Wait 30 seconds and plug it back in.
The modem will automatically train and authenticate. Once it authenticates you are ready to explore the web.
Congratulations, you have updated the Actiontec 1520 to Qwest approved software release 1.60.10.0.71.
