Intel 2200 Windows XP modem software migration (PPP).

This instruction set is for the Intel Pro/DSL 2200 modem used with Windows XP. The installation process below is for migrating users only. A migrating user is defined as a user who already has installed the Intel 2200 modem under an earlier version of Windows and needs to update their modem software for Windows XP support.

Please download the software before migrating to Windows XP, and then upgrade your modem software after you have migrated to Windows XP.

The total download and installation process should take approximately 15 minutes to complete. If you stop before the installation is complete, you will need to start over.

Print this instruction set before continuing with the installation process. If you do not own a printer, save these instructions to a file. Then, open the file to follow along as you complete these steps.

 

Downloading Software

STEP 1

Click here to download the Intel PRO/DSL 2200 Windows XP software. This process will take less than a minute.


STEP 2

Save the download2200.exe file to your PC's hard disk. In the example below, the file was saved to the C:/TEMP subdirectory.

NOTE: Make sure you note the location of the file you saved.

You can now upgrade your PC to Windows XP. After you have upgraded your PC to Windows XP, proceed with the software installation.

If you have upgraded your PC to Windows XP already, continue with the software installation.

 

Installing your Intel 2200 PRO/DSL modem software

STEP 1

Double click on the download2200.exe file you saved in the C:/TEMP directory.


STEP 2

Select MIGRATE DSL.


STEP 3

Select YES.


STEP 4

Select CONTINUE ANYWAY.

NOTE: Your PC will now reboot. You have finished upgrading your modem for Windows XP support. Please continue with the connection procedure after your PC finishes rebooting.

 

Connecting to the Internet

STEP 1

Double click on the Intel DSL modem icon on your desktop.


STEP 2

Insert your ISP provided user ID and password. Then, click "save this user name and password for the following users" and select DIAL.

NOTE: Your ISP user ID and password can be found on your ISP worksheet. If you have lost your ISP user ID and password, please contact your ISP's technical support.


STEP 3

Double click the Connection Manager icon in the system tray.

NOTE: The system tray is at the bottom right corner of your screen. It is the box that includes the time of day.


STEP 4

If the three indicators under the "Status" section are green, you are connected to the Internet.


Congratulations! You have completed the upgrade process and are ready to browse the Internet.
