Instructions - Windows 95 or Windows 98
If you have experienced the following errors while using
your Intel® PRO/DSL 2100 Modem Software, version 1.0, and
you have Windows® 95 or Windows® 98, please continue with
this download procedure.
After browsing the web for a short period of time, the DSL
modem stops receiving traffic. While the connection appears
active, it will not allow browsing.
Windows® 95 or Windows® 98 users experience a "Windows® Protection
Error" upon the first reboot after the DSL modem is installed.
This may result in the PC entering "safe mode." You will know
your computer is in safe mode when a banner on your screen
says "Safe Mode." Your PC will have the minimum configuration
with only a scheme of 16 colors and enlarged icons.
- After installing the DSL modem and
booting the computer for the first time, the PC did not
recognize the DSL modem as installed. Resources such as
IRQ and memory are not allocated.
- DSL modem not able to establish
a connection (Error 678 = no answer).
- RS error counter did not reflect
accurate error counts within Connection Manager. To determine
if you are experiencing this problem, open your Connection
Manager. If your RS error count is zero and is not incrementing,
then this may apply to you. However, RS errors are a normal
part of your DSL operation and does not necessarily mean
there is a problem with your service.
NOTE: To update Windows® NT, order the software by contacting
a Qwest Representative at 1-800-247-7285. The software
and instructions will be mailed to you.
The Intel® PRO/DSL 2100 Modem Software download will repair
these problems. The download process will take approximately
10 minutes.
In order to complete the process, you will need to do the

software updates including enhancements to current operating
system features. Depending on the application and usage, it
may or may not be an advantage to upgrade the operating system
of your equipment. In fact, you could render your equipment
inoperable if the upgrade procedures are not properly followed,

risk. Qwest DSLTM customers are provided this information
