Information for Customer Premises Equipment Manufacturers and Enhanced Services Providers

INFORMATIONAL ANNOUNCEMENT

Advanced Intelligent Network Feature Interaction Summary for SingleNumber Service (SNS) - Basic

Disclosure Date: April 22, 1996

Summary:

U S WEST will be offering several new services which will make use of the Advanced Intelligent Network (AIN). The AIN uses the switching network infra-structure and its internal signaling capabilities. Since the AIN is still evolving, new services will, for a time, adversely impact other features, services, and funtionality's currently being offered by U S WEST.

These interactions can not be corrected by making changes to Customer Premises Equipment or by any change in the manner in which an Enhanced Services Provider interconnects with U S WEST's basic network.

SingleNumber Service (SNS) - Basic provides a single telephone number to customers with multiple business locations. Subscribers may use this single number to provide one publicized access number for multiple business locations.

Attached are the known interactions to date for SingleNumber Service (SNS) - Basic on NorTel DMS switches equipped with AIN 0.1 and using a Virtual Termination Attempt Trigger (VTAT).

Deployment:

U S WEST currently plans to deploy SingleNumber Service - Basic in Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

The following is a list of known feature interactions
for SingleNumber Service (SNS) - Basic

1) Selective Call Forwarding (SCF) and Selective Call Rejection (SCRJ):

Since the switch does not recognize the Virtual Termination Attempt Trigger (VTAT) number as a real line, the only way to place it on a SCF or SCRJ list is via a service order. If a number is provisioned with a VTAT and is forwarded to another number, the number that is forwarded and verified against the SCF or SCRJ list is the calling number, not the VTAT number.

2) Call Forward Don't Answer (CFDA) /Call Forward Busy Line (CFBL):

Intra-office calls on a SNS number that are forwarded to an Intra-office line with CFDA/CFBL which is then forwarded to a Voice Messaging System (VMS), fail to identify the correct mailbox. Incoming calls to a line with a VTAT that are then forwarded to another line equipped with CFDA/CFBL will receive the VMS for the VTAT, not the CFDA/CFBL number. If the number with the VTAT does not have a VMS, and is forwarded to a line equipped with CFDA/CFBL, the VMS receives the VTAT as the forwarded number not the CFDA/CFBL number, therefore the caller gets a generic greeting.

3) Continuous Redial:

On Intra-office calls to a SNS number that are forwarded to an Intra-office line, Continuous Redial (*66) will dial the destination number, not the SNS VTAT number. The VTAT number is not recognized as a "real" line by the switch.
