Abilene not only interconnects with research and education networks around the world, it also provides a valuable service to the international community by providing transit across Abilene to international research networks. This Abilene International Transit Network (ITN) service allows, for example, a research network in Europe which connects to Abilene in New York to communicate (exchange traffic) with a research network from Japan which connects to Abilene in Los Angeles. Abilene provides a path between the two international networks. This service directly benefits the U.S. academia, researchers and students using Abilene, by fostering a stronger global collaborative research environment overall.
Qwest® is delighted that using Abilene allows participants to be actively involved in the global community of researchers, educators and visionaries who are combining their intellectual resources to shape our future.
