Qwest Offers Windows LiveTM Services For Innovative, Customized, Online Experience
DENVER, July 11, 2007 - Qwest Communications International Inc. (NYSE: Q) announced today that
it is the first communications provider in the U.S. to collaborate with Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) to
offer Qwest Broadband with Windows Live services, a new customizable and intuitive way for customers
to enhance their online experiences.
Windows Live from Qwest is available at no additional charge to residential Qwest Broadband customers
who choose Microsoft as their ISP. It contains essential tools to keep customers better informed, connected
and protected online. The service, which is available exclusively to new and current residential Qwest
Broadband customers, brings customers' online worlds together-in one place, through one interface-and
offers the tools to stay connected, plus powerful protection features, including:
- Qwest.Live.com: This new and completely customizable home page brings customers' online worlds
and Live Search together in one place. With persistent (always visible) Live Search, customers can
find things fast. They can also choose from hundreds of gadgets to customize their home pages with
weather, sports, news, games and much more. They can also search and download video content.
- Windows Live OneCareTM from Qwest: The all-in-one security and performance service for customers'
computers gives customers one suite of services to help protect and maintain their computers, and
offers comprehensive anti-virus, anti-spyware and computer health and optimization features. Plus,
Windows Live OneCare from Qwest includes easy-to-set-up family safety settings including parental
controls, usage limits and the abilities to blacklist certain sites and create Internet activity
logs.
- Qwest Mail by Windows Live: An updated, more powerful e-mail platform offers new features such
as a reading pane, drag-and-drop functionality and AutoComplete address population. Because Qwest
Mail by Windows Live is integrated into the Qwest.Live.com home page, it only requires a single sign-in,
rather than multiple login areas. In addition, Qwest is the only communications provider to offer
a single-letter e-mail domain: q.com. With this new q.com domain, customers get a fresh opportunity
to create personalized e-mail addresses.
"With the launch of Windows Live, there's never been a better time to be a Qwest Broadband customer," said
Dan Yost, Qwest executive vice president of product. "Qwest and Microsoft have worked to bring the
best Internet experience possible to customers. With Windows Live from Qwest, Qwest Broadband customers
get the information they need, tools to stay connected with the people they care about and powerful
protection features-in one easy-to-use platform."
"Microsoft is pleased to have teamed up with Qwest to make customers' online experiences even better," said
Steve Berkowitz, senior vice president of the Online Services Group at Microsoft Corp. "Windows Live
from Qwest brings the Internet to life for customers with customizable, intuitive and cool features,
backed by the strength of the Qwest network and Microsoft design."
Qwest and Microsoft have jointly built Windows Live from Qwest to be the foundation for Qwest's future
voice and data convergence.
Windows Live from Qwest is included at no additional charge for new residential Qwest Broadband customers
who choose Microsoft as their ISP and whose computers run on the Windows Vista or Windows XP service
pack 2 operating systems. Residential customers may order new Qwest Broadband with Windows Live Services
by calling 1 800-244-1111 or by visiting qwest.com or a Qwest Solutions Center. In addition, existing
