Kindergarten students all over Qwest's 14 states are sure to benefit
from the Pioneers' latest project that promotes good self-esteem through a book called
"I Like Me." Through their fundraising efforts, Qwest Pioneers purchase
and present these books that are aimed at giving children a positive start to reading
as each book is personalized for each individual child.
"The kids are really excited about receiving their books," says Wyoming
kindergarten teacher Tia Tyler-Frederick. "A lot of times our children don't
have the advantage of having nice, hard-bound books. Some of my students might
treasure this more than a student who gets books all the time."
Recent presentations of the books in Colorado, New Mexico and Utah received
similar reactions from school officials and parents. This is a great project
aimed at supporting the Pioneers? education focus. Each student's book mentions
them by name at least 20 times and incorporates their friends, teacher and
other people in the child's life.
Pioneers are working within their individual communities to discover the best
way to match the "I Like Me" books with schools that want them. Presentations
are planned in each of Qwest's 14 states. To find out about the
Pioneers' "I Like Me" book presentations or about other volunteer efforts the
Qwest Pioneers are doing in your community and how you can be
a part of it, contact your local Pioneer leader.
